I am researching my family history and while I can confirm some of the information from the GRHS data base and some anecdotal information from my father (now deceased) I am still running into a brickwall. Gimbel: According to my father his maternal great-grandfather, Andreas Wenz, emigrated to fom Muehlhausen-Vaihingen to Gueldendorf near Odessa. His grandfather Anton Wenz married Katharine Ziegele. Both were from Waterloo. Hilz: My mother was born Olga Hilz in Huttertal. Parents Friedrich Hilz and Ottilie Hilz born in Huttertal and Johannesruh, respectively. My mother had a number of siblings but the only one I can find is a brother Edgar also born in Huttertal. When my parents left Russia we lost all contact from my mother's side of the family. If anyone has any information or direction, I would certainly appreciate hearing from you. |

Hilz is mentioned in Stumpp Supplement I: S t u m p p Surname Census RL* RL/Page Hilz Neuburg 1812 8, 9 7-8/618 and in the main book: Hilz, nach Tiefenbrunn/Tau Hilz, Georg, nach Neuburg/Od; RL: 7 Hiltz, Martin, aus Ba, 1809, nach Friedrichsfeld/Tau 7, s. auch 8 Hilz, Georg 30, seine Frau Maria 22, deren Kinder Margaretha 6, Georg 2, ferner seine Schwestern Barbara 18, Anna 12, Maria, 1811 nach der Kolonie Peterthal verheiratet. 8, s. auch 7 Hilz, Mathaeus 34, aus: Wittershausen/Horb-Wue, seine Frau Katharina 35, deren Toechter Katharina 6, Rosina 1. (21) Tiefenbrunn, gegr. 1820 (Evang.) Herkunftsland (Country of origin): Alle aus Baden ... 12 Hilz None of this mentions Hutteral but perhaps a connection? |
